SYED SHAH
Syed’s uncle Zahid Shah was deported to Pakistan on Oct. 31, 2002. Zahid came to the United States for economic opportunity and worked legally at a 7-11, twelve hours a day, six days a week. Every month Zahid sent $800 back to Pakistan to support his five children. Zahid was coerced into signing papers admitting to an immigration violation. He eventually signed voluntary departure papers because he was worried that his family in Pakistan would have no support if he remained in detention. Zahid currently lives in Lahor, Pakistan, with his wife and five children. He works for a sporting goods supplier, and is trying to obtain a visa to work in England or Ireland.
